The Thomas Wimmer House on Burgkmairstraße is part of the "Alte Heimat" foundation housing estate, which was created in the 1960s as part of an ensemble of residential buildings. Due to its location on the edge of the park, it forms a spatial conclusion to this estate to the west. The Thomas Wimmer House has been used as a residential home for the elderly with an integrated day care centre since the mid-1960s.
The new replacement building for the Thomas Wimmer House is confidently positioned as an eight-storey residential building on the familiar site. Compared to the current location and the proposal of the preliminary decision, the building is positioned further to the north and, thanks to its compact, efficient design, manages to preserve the existing green area to the south and secure it as a valuable, overgrown open space for the residents. The widening and alignment of the building cubature optimises the natural lighting and allows an increased building depth, creating an efficient, economical and spatially qualitative concept for the building and a good floor plan design for the flats.
The open spaces of the new Thomas Wimmer House provide an appropriate setting for the ground floor zone, with the design of the individual areas orientated towards the uses in the building.
