LOCATION
The location in the town where the Mayr-Wirt stood until recently is close to the centre of Erding. In the southern extension of Friedrich Fischer Straße, with a view of the town hall, is the location to which many Erding residents have an emotional connection due to its former catering use. This knowledge of the place, the name and the described connection is a decisive basis for the success of the new planning at the location. People associate community and good accessibility with the location. The location means that all of the city's central services are within walking distance, including the S-Bahn station. The surrounding watercourses of the Sempt and Saubach streams give the impression of a green, scenic neighbourhood. Here, the city appears liveable and familiar for different generations. A reference point as an address and a place where you want to be at home.
CITY SPACE
The building site blends naturally into the existing historical structure of the city's existing parcelled building plots. Four different sides face the surrounding streets. To the east, the new four-storey building is confidently positioned on Haager Strasse, which connects the building block with the city centre to the north. A five-storey building occupies the corner as an address-forming building block and, together with the school building on Grüner Markt, forms a space-forming ensemble. Along Kordonhausgasse and Pferdeschwemmgasse, the new three-storey urban building block blends into the scale of the neighbourhood. Flat sloping roofs create a familiar image of a divided city and additional rhythm.
PROGRAMME
An important part of the task is to develop a utilisation concept for this special location in the city. The question arises as to what resilient and long-term economic situation the proposed utilisation can offer. At the same time, and far more importantly, is the question of how the town itself and its citizens will establish and maintain a relevant relationship with the new Mayr-Wirt. The desire for an economy in the new structure already indicates this bond. Offices and services do not offer a needs-based solution in the current situation. Instead, a combination of different, mutually compatible programme modules would appear to be an interesting option. A responsible operator with manageable risks and a combination of uses that is compatible with the city and promotes urban society. A structure of parts: Housing for families, carers and overnight accommodation for travellers, as well as a long-term home for ageing members of urban society, i.e. for all of us.
HOUSE
The new structure is therefore a composite building block in Erding. Just like most of the building blocks in the neighbourhood. Inside the neighbourhood there is an open space that is zoned by an open single-storey pergola. The eastern part is entered and sunlit by the generous opening to the south. Here there is a guest garden that complements the outdoor bar area of the new restaurant facing Haager Strasse. Beyond the pergola, which can be used by guests and residents on less sunny days, the courtyard of the western sections offers a private and spatially enclosed communal garden. To the north, the arcade creates a sheltered space for entering and sitting, and connects the assisted living flats in the eastern section to the communal courtyard. Here, a further, lower-level entrance provides access to the courtyard and address to Haager Strasse. The new Mayr-Wirt house was to be a stately building, conscious of its location and history.
